The Influence of Brazing on Very Compact Heat Exchanger Surfaces

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Three geometrically similar offset rectangular platefin surfaces with area densities in the range from goo to 2000 ft 2/ft3 were tested to establish the heat transfer., j-NR~ and flow friction, f-NR, characteristics. The Reynolds number range was from 60 to 3000. One surface was unbrazed while the other two, because of a two-to-one difference in plate, fin and offset spacing dimensions~ were characterized by different degrees of brazing 11 roughness 11 • The test results reveal a relatively small effect of brazing on j-NR but a significant influence on f-NR with ~ , a 35 to 50 percent higher friction for the brazed surface. There is an 11 area penalty'' of 14 percent due to brazing associated with the complete coverage of the interface area at the brazed joints. The magnitude of this penalty depends on the geometry of the surface .

Transport Phenomena Involved in Controlled Atmosphere Brazing of Microchannel Aluminum Heat Exchanger

Controlled atmosphere brazing (CAB) is a state-of-the-art joining technology associated with high production rates of many products, including microchannel aluminum heat exchangers. The complex designs of highly augmented compact heat transfer surfaces impose very difficult requirements for a brazing process. Regardless of the fact that brazing is a highly developed engineering art, many state-...

Compact Heat Exchangers for Microturbines

With distributed power generation market, the most economical solution today is to generate power through small gas turbine systems, arbitrarily categorized as microturbines (5 – 200 kW) and miniturbines (200 – 500 kW). The thermal efficiency of such microturbines is about 20% or less if no recuperator is used in the system. Using a recuperator (regenerator can also be considered but has a numb...

Optimization of Finned-Tube Heat Exchanger with Minimizing the Entropy Production rate

A compact fin-tube heat exchanger is used to transfer current fluid heat inside the tubes into the air outside. In this study, entropy production and optimized Reynolds number for finned-tube heat exchangers based on the minimum entropy production have been investigated. As a result, the total entropy of compact heat exchangers, which is the summation of the production rate of fluid entropy ins...

Effect of Welding Heat Input on the Intermetallic Compound Layer and Mechanical Properties in Arc Welding-brazing Dissimilar Joining of Aluminum Alloy to Galvanized Steel

The effect of weld heat input on the formation of intermetallic compound (IMCs) layer during arc welding–brazing of aluminium and steel dissimilar alloys, was investigated through both finite element method (FEM) numerical simulations and experimental measurements. The results of FEM analysis as well as welding experiments indicated that increasing weld heat input increases the thickness of IMC...
